Skincare for Sensitive Skin

I have been plagued by sensitive eczema prone skin as long as I can remember. Anything with too much fragrance or chemicals will definitely make my skin react.
Throughout my teenage years my face was like a testing facility for skin care products, I tried everything. Since I also had mild acne to deal with, it was hard to find the perfect products that addressed acne but did not dry out my skin. Over the years I learned that one perfect product does not exist, it is a balance of heavy-duty moisturizers and gentle acne fighters was key to keep my skin in balance.
Now that I am (quickly) approaching my thirties (!), thankfully my skin has calmed down acne wise, but as one door closes a window opens- enter wrinkles and fine lines. Most dermatologist will tell you skin already starts to age by your mid-twenties. Wrinkle products, especially ones loaded with retinol can be just as harsh for sensitive skin as salicylic acid in acne products, so again finding the perfect solution for your sensitive skin is not easy.
Through trial and error I can safely say that I have found a skin care system that works for me. Using a combination of gentle cleansers, soothing toners, heavy duty moisturizers (especially in winter) is key. Adding a wrinkle serum for face and eyes at this age is also a good idea and do not forget a daily SPF even if you are spending most of the day indoors. A daily moisturizer with SPF 15 or 30 is fine most days, but remember to increase SPF on days you know you will be outdoors a lot.
On days I feel especially dry and flaky, and twice a week during winter I add a little extra to my routine. A good face oil, like this one from Josie Maran is amazing. Even if you have oily skin don't fear face oils. Good quality oils absorb quickly and do not leave your skin feeling greasy. This one is truly multipurpose, and can be used for dry hair, cuticles and even dry patches of eczema. I apply my the oil after going a gentle scrub with Soap & Glory scrub, and Avene moisture mask and my skin feels radiant.
